Classroom Environment

Curiosity and inquisitiveness make learning and exploration so much fun with 3 year old preschoolers. At this age, their language is more defined as they can clearly communicate with others. They ask many questions as they try to understand their world. Their independence is heightened at this age and is often demonstrated in their desire to do it all by themselves. At this stage in life they tend to express concern for others, follow directions, and make clear choices. Potty trained or almost there, they are ready to take on the world.

In order to maximize the learning potential of preschoolers, our Pre-Scholars classrooms feature a more academic environment with multiple opportunities for play and exploration woven throughout the day. Young minds are malleable and easily able to grasp new concepts. By providing a foundation to academic learning and social interaction, it is our mission to prepare our Pre-Scholars for the demands of kindergarten and elementary school years. We do so by engaging them in structured, developmentally appropriate learning opportunities in reading, writing, math, science, technology, and manipulative play.

Each PreScholar receives a personal sleeping cot and parents are asked to bring in blankets. Cots are safely disinfected at the end of each day. Our teachers sanitize toys and bathrooms regularly throughout the day to ensure cleanliness. We limit class size to 20 PreScholars with two teachers, always maintaining a 1:10 teacher-student ratio. Breakfast, lunch, and snack are provided daily.

Frog Street Threes is a preschool curriculum that meets the unique needs of three-year-olds and provides intentional instruction in key areas of development. It is a research-based program that directly ties to the Florida Standards for Early Learning. We know that three-year-olds are special! They are transitioning from parallel play to interactive play, and their language capacity is blossoming. They are mobile and learning to show genuine affection and concern for their peers. Frog Street’s curriculum for 3-year-olds allows children to continue on the path to kindergarten preparation. Children are encouraged to develop rich oral language and vocabulary as well as strong social and emotional connections. The included materials and learning strategies help our threes embrace the joy of learning every day! With nine thematic learning units, our preschoolers participate in hands-on activities to learn concepts in phonics, language development, numbers, letters, shapes, colors, and reading comprehension. In addition, Frog Street’s curriculum for 3-year-olds uses early brain development research as the framework for instruction and offers strong daily routines that develop key social and emotional skills.

In addition to dramatic play, socialization activities, and loads of fun, our teachers ramp up instruction to engage our PreScholars in core academic learning, sure to prepare them for kindergarten readiness and beyond. Phonemic awareness, phonics instruction, sight words, handwriting, and math become the primary focus during our structured learning times. Teachers observe student learning, maintain anecdotal records, and assess students bi-weekly to document the growth of each child. These notes are also used to differentiate instruction and provide one-on-one learning to ensure each child successfully masters our learning milestones and objectives. Core math skills are taught within a more structured approach to learning math and to extend learning beyond shapes and colors. Students begin to sort, match, count objects, and complete basic addition and subtraction activities.

We also utilize Christian materials to highlight children’s Bible stories that are just right for our little toddlers to begin the process of character development, which is further strengthened when they advance to the Scholars (age 4) program. Our PreScholars classrooms are filled with age-appropriate toys and books that are explored independently by students during center time. Parental daily reports are provided to update families with meal and nap times, diapering, and all activities accomplished each day.
