Gifted Toddlers

2 years – 3 years

Within our 2-year old toddler suites, we focus our attention to further promote social and emotional development by providing routines and a safe environment where children are free to explore.

Toddler Area

Independence is the name of the game at age 2. Toddlers at this stage are developing a keen sense of who they are and their new found independence. Their language is developing as they often use words and phrases such as, “Mine, No, Juice, All Gone”. Within our 2-year old toddler suites, we focus our attention to further promote social and emotional development by providing routines and a safe environment where children are free to explore. We assist our toddlers in understanding the importance of sharing, taking turns, and being kind to their friends. Because socialization is critical at this age as toddlers become aware of others, we’ve designed two toddler classrooms to address the developmental age difference between younger and older twos. Our Gifted Toddlers A classroom accommodates 24-30 month olds while Gifted Toddlers B offers care to ages 30-36 months. The classes feature a large open floor space with colorful rugs that are perfect for circle time activities and provide comfort during our independent play. Each toddler classroom is equipped with bathrooms as we begin “potty training!” Our families never have to go at it alone; we partner with you during this exciting transition. Each toddler also receives a personal sleeping cot and parents are asked to bring in blankets. Cots are safely disinfected at the end of each day. Our teachers sanitize toys and bathrooms regularly throughout the day to ensure cleanliness. We limit class size to only 16 toddlers with two teachers, always maintaining a 1:8 teacher-student ratio. Breakfast, lunch, and snack are provided daily.

Curriculum

Our teachers are dedicated in helping each child develop socially and emotionally by establishing trusting and loving relationships with them. Throughout the day, we provide opportunities for pretend play which is important in building language and teaching toddlers how to interact with others. When children take on roles, they develop their own ideas and stories, express feelings, and display creativity. Our teachers aid them in this process and also help them to resolve conflicts, follow directions, and make good choices.

Core math skills are taught within a more structured approach to learning math and to extend learning beyond shapes and colors. Students begin to sort, match, count objects, and complete basic addition and subtraction activities. A Beka, a nationally recognized curricular program, is continued in our toddlers class. Teachers engage children in phonics, language development, vocabulary and featured stories. We also utilize A Beka’s materials to highlight children’s stories to enhance character development.

Our toddler suites are filled with age appropriate toys and books that are explored independently by students during center time. Parental daily reports are provided to update families with meal and nap times, potty training and all activities accomplished each day.
